Edinburgh Rugby stars swap ruck for rough at Carrick Knowe
20 April 2009

On Thursday 16 April, Scotland International Allister Hogg and Edinburgh Rugby teammates Marc Teague and Jim Thompson dropped in on their neighbours at Carrick Knowe Golf Course to take on junior members of Carrickvale in a nearest the pin par 3 competition.

After a number of practice efforts, all three rugby stars (who all claim to play golf in their spare time), the competition began in ernest against a confident group of young guns.

Sadly for the rugby players, their lack of local knowledge (or perhaps a heavy training session earlier that day!) showed, with only Jim Thompson threatening the youngsters for the winning tee shot.

In the end, the efforts of he and one of the juniors were too close to call, so it was down to their putting skills to decide the winner. However, perhaps lack of practice got the better of the rugby man, as he fell some way short of the junior's fine putt.

So the prize of a year's season ticket for all 6 Edinburgh golf courses went to the winner - 14 year old Cameron McCullough.

Well done Cameron!
