In 2010 Edinburgh Leisure launched a network of Jogging Groups from it's venues across the city. Following the Jog Scotland model, our groups are fun, friendly and a great way to exercise. Whether you are getting back into exercise again after a period of inactivity or have your sights set on a 5k, 10k or even a marathon, we can help!
Each group is led by a fully qualified Jog Scotland Jog Leader who will help you build up your fitness level and running ability to achieve your own personal goal. They are on hand to support and motivate you throughout your training and have even been known to send their groups motivational emails and information outwith the usual weekly session! Not only that but you'll also be supported along the way by your fellow jogging group members and many of our customers who attend these groups love the camaraderie they experience by going along.
So, if you're one of those people who thinks they should do more exercise but never gets round to it, or you want to lose weight but find it difficult to motivate yourself, or you're just looking for a new hobby or place to meet new people, come along to one of our jogging sessions and get start jogging with Edinburgh Leisure!
Please Note: Participants are required to take out a Bronze Membership with JogScotland (free) and membership forms are available from venue receptions or from www.jogscotland.org.uk Bronze Membership with JogScotland entitles you to a Stride logbook, monthly e-stride email newsletters, quarterly Stride magazine, 10% discount on PUMA shoes and at Run 4 It shops, as well as other special offers throughout the year.
Where are the sessions? Our jogging groups can be found in the activity and timetable search. New sessions are often being added so please ask at your nearest venue if any new sessions have started there recently.
How do I get started? It's quite simple really, all you have to do is go along to the venue most convenient to you prior to the group's start time and book in at reception, who will show you where the group usually meets before going out jogging (we recommend that you call to book your place first as some groups fill up fast!).
Prior to your first session starting, you are required to complete a Bronze JogScotland membership form*, which lets your JogLeader know if you have any medical conditions or additional support requirements that may affect your ability during exercise.
And that's it, you're now ready to hit the streets running....!

What do I need to bring? You only need to bring yourself but we recommend the following to ensure you are properly equipped to get the most out of the experience:
- Quality running shoes are recommended to protect you from the repetitive stresses your body experiences while out jogging. Things to look for in running shoes are cushioning, flexibility, stability, sole thickness and arch support. Some of these would be considered “frills” for day to day use but are valuable in helping protect you from injury when out running.
- Clothing appropriate to the weather should be worn as our jogging groups make good use of Edinburgh's great outdoors whatever the weather! In winter, warm layers that are easily adjusted are advisable, allowing you to maintain a nice temperature while out. Hats and gloves are useful as is a lightweight waterproof jacket, which is ideal for a top layer and can be used all year round. During the summer loose, light clothing is advised, such as shorts or running tights with a t-shirt or vest, whatever you feel most comfortable in.
- Visibility: In the winter, some of our groups are out after dark so we recommend that you ensure you have some high viz clothing of some sort, e.g. a jacket with reflective strips or high viz bands, which are available in all good running shops.
- A bottle of water or sports drink. Staying hydrated is important so we recommend that you have access to fluids, whether that's a bottle you want to carry with you while running, something you bring with you to leave at the leisure centre or money to buy a drink, it is important that you replace fluids after exercise.
Any Questions? We understand that you may still have some questions so please contact Jane, our Athletics Development Officer, on 0131 458 2177 or at janescott@edinburghleisure.co.uk and she will be happy to help!
