Gymnastics

Gymnastics works virtually every muscle in the body and is a great way to stay in shape beyond that though it is a great way to develop physically and socially whilst having lots of fun. Gymnastics is an excellent sport for both boys and girls that develops strength, co-ordination, self confidence and body awareness- skills for life!

Benefits of gymnastics?
The list is endless. Participation in gymnastics helps the child learn to listen and follow directions, builds self-esteem and confidence, helps with goal setting skills, concentration, determination, helps develop social interaction, enhances performance and develops attention to detail. It encourages children to work at their own pace. There is no need to keep up with the pact. Gymnasts are encouraged to achieve their personal best. They learn to listen to their body and know how far they can push themselves safely. This provides a solid foundation for school, other sports, work habits and for the rest of their life.

Edinburgh Leisure's gymnastics consists of a fantastic choice of programmes, all taught by qualified coaches. The ethos of our programmes is about having an enjoyable experience.

Our Gymnastics programme consists of classes across 8 leisure centres catering for children aged 5 years old to up to those in their teens. All our classes are designed to help children develop physically and socially within a structured programme. You will learn gymnastics skills on the floor and on the vault and in some of our sites you will also be able to incorporate the bars, beam, tumbling and trampette work.

Everyone enters the gymnastics coaching programme at general level to ensure you master the basics before progressing and our coaches regularly asses gymnasts to ensure they are continually progressing through our well structured programme.

Once you’ve found your feet on the floor and perfect your balance and co-ordination there is an intermediate coaching programme which is a more advanced level of training. Beyond that there are two options to further progress your skill:

1. Development: These classes are for gymnasts by invitation only and will focus on gymnasts who are ready to move on from intermediate level. These classes run for 1.5 hours a week however gymnasts will have the option to attend both the development class along with their original intermediate class.

2. Talent Development: These classes are for gymnasts by invitation only and will focus on gymnasts who have potential to perform in Scottish Gymnastics National Grading system. These classes will train between 2 – 4 hrs per week across 1 / 2 sessions. Talented gymnasts will be given the information needed to move onto a Gymnastics club.
