At Port Edgar we offer a wide range of sailing courses from beginner right through to advanced and instructor level. And there’s no better way of getting into the popular sport than with our team of highly experienced instructors. Most of our courses follow the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) National Sailing Scheme, and on successful completion you will be awarded a certificate allowing you to move to the next level. Already experienced but not yet completed any courses? With the correct pre-requisite experience you can join in at any level. Please contact our bookings team for advice on which course is the one for you.
Dinghy One Day Taster
Dinghy Taster courses are just that; a little taste of sailing. You’ll get a fun, hands on, introduction to dinghy sailing and by the end you’ll be part of the crew! And if you book your next course on the day, you’ll receive 10% off!
RYA Dinghy Start Sailing (Level 1)
This course is a gentle introduction to sailing, where you will learn how to rig a dinghy and the basics to get afloat for the first time. At the end, you’ll be able to sail in light winds under supervision.
RYA Dinghy Basic Skills (Level 2)
This course gives you the chance to really get to grips with the sport. Our instructors will help develop your skills so you’ll be a safe and competent sailor in no time. By the end of the course you’ll be sailing independently (in good conditions) and you’ll even be able to hire boats from Port Edgar to go out in yourself! Please note; if you choose to complete the course over a weekend, you must have already completed the RYA Dinghy Level 1 course.
Better Sailing (Level 3)
The new RYA Level 3 course is now fully integrated into the National Sailing Scheme. The course is designed to give you an opportunity to practice techniques introduced at Level 1 & 2 and to develop your performance. It’s also a great way to help prepare for moving onto the RYA advanced modules.
Advanced Dinghy Modules
Once you’ve got to grips with the basics, take your sailing further with our advanced modules. You can either focus on one module over a weekend or, if you choose to take part in one of our 5 day skills development weeks, you should aim to cover two of the modules.
Sailing experience after completing the Basic Skills Level 2 course is required before taking part in any of these advanced modules. And if it’s been a while since you were last out on the water, we’d recommend completing our Better Sailing course Level 3.
RYA Dinghy Seamanship Skills
