Fancy a dip? If you just fancy a dip check out the pool programme information on our pools page. And if you want to swim as a family our family swims offer a cost effective way to take part, where two adults and two children are swimming, a family swim price means that at least one child swims for free.
Need a little more motivation? If you're happy swimming on your own but feel like you'd benefit from a bit more structure then check out Zoggs Swim4Fitness. Their online trainer will help you develop your stroke and take you through a variety of workouts dependant on your goals and ability.
Want a little more help? Beyond casual swimming, Edinburgh Leisure offers a range of adult swimming opportunities from the beginner to the competitive master! Swimming is also a great way to help you recover from specific injuries or keep you fit whilst pregnant or post natal, just check with your doctor before you swim and have a chat to one of our friendly teachers or coaches before you take the plunge!
Our swimming classes below are ideal for adults of all levels and with lessons across the City we'll have something near you. To check out all of the swimming classes available click on the activity and timetable search. Class descriptions to give you a little more info on what's involved can be found below.
Adult Beginners If you are new to the water or need to improve your confidence, our adult beginners classes help develop the skills required to enable stroke development. Teachers assess the needs of each individual participant and their confidence levels, and plan individualised schedules accordingly. Customers are encouraged to chat and socialise, as you need to catch your breath every now and again!
Adult Stroke Development If you are confident in mid-depth water and are keen to develop new strokes or define specific aspects of particular strokes, teachers will be able to offer appropriate practises and drills. For example: developing front crawl breathing, improving breast-stroke kick or learning to dive into deep water
Masters Swimming Edinburgh Leisure offers a number of Master Swimming sessions across the city, usually in the early mornings or evening. Masters swimming is club style swimming for adults. The Royal Commonwealth Pool even offers long course 50 metre training sessions. It encompasses the whole range of ability from casual fitness swimming to highly organised competitive swimming. The optional competitive pathway is managed by the Amateur Swimming Association and includes a number of competitions for adults aged 19 +.
There are currently some 5,000 swimmers of masters age registered with the Amateur Swimming Association. There are also about 400 clubs which are dedicated to masters swimming or are masters sections of larger clubs. For those who wish to travel, there are World and European Championships, as well as a large number of open competitions abroad just as there are in Great Britain.
